Li-Metal Begins Feasibility of Commercial-Scale Lithium Metal Production Facility

TORONTO, ON/ACCESSWIRE/September 6, 2022/ Li-Metal Corp. (CSE LIM)(OTCQB: LIMFF)(FSE: 5ZO) (“Li-Metal” or “the Company”), a leading developer of critical lithium metal anode and lithium metal technologies for next-generation batteries , today announced that it has engaged Hatch Ltd. (“Hat”), a leading global engineering, project management and professional services company, to undertake a concept study (“Study”) for the commercial-scale lithium metal production facility of Li-Metal.

Earlier this year, Li-Metal completed construction of its pilot lithium metal production plant located 25 kilometers northeast of Toronto. In addition to the lithium metal production pilot plant and corporate offices, the Toronto facility houses Li-Metal’s Advanced Anode Materials Laboratory, which develops and tests battery anode materials new generation personalized.

This study will focus on the development of the Company’s large-scale commercial lithium metal production facility.

Hatch is bringing its deep expertise in the lithium and battery metals industry to Li-Metal’s proposed commercial lithium metal production facility. Hatch is a globally recognized leader in project engineering and implementation, with a strong track record of delivering innovative solutions for complex technologies and projects. Li-Metal will work closely with Hatch’s experienced lithium team and subject matter experts.

“We are excited to work with Hatch as we advance the development of Li-Metal’s lithium metal production technology,” said Maciej Jastrzebski, co-founder and CEO of Li-Metal. “As a former Hatch engineer, I have witnessed firsthand their team’s unparalleled lithium expertise. I look forward to working closely with Hatch as we move closer to bringing domestic lithium metal production capacity online.

Lithium metal is a very valuable material for several industries and a key input for next-generation lithium metal batteries that are expected to have significantly increased performance over traditional lithium-ion batteries using graphite anodes. Currently, lithium metal production is concentrated in China, with conventional processes using lithium chloride. These processes are not considered environmentally sustainable, typically producing 5 tonnes of chlorine gas emissions for every tonne of lithium metal. To meet the growing demand for domestic lithium metal production, Li-Metal has developed and commercializes lithium metal technology to support a cleaner and improved production process that uses lithium carbonate as a raw material and produces no sub -harmful toxic products.
